Timo Hannay

I am a technologist, scientist and entrepreneur working at the intersections between education, research, media and artificial intelligence. I have longstanding interests in brains and computers, and how they can work effectively together.

My current activities include:

  • SchoolDash: An education data analytics firm (founder) πŸ“ˆ
  • The Schools Guide: A groundbreaking service for families in England (creator) ℹ️
  • Project X: Experiments in AI for higher education (cat herder) 🐈
  • Sage Publishing: A global academic publisher (non-executive director) πŸ“š
  • Arden University: A pioneer in higher education (non-executive director) πŸŽ“
  • EDUCATE Ventures Research: A trailblazer in AI for education (non-executive director) πŸ§‘β€πŸ’»
  • Ada Lovelace Day: A global celebration of women and girls in STEM (advisor) πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬
  • Maths4Girls: A charity promoting maths among girls (advisor) πŸ’―

I also help to orgaise Social Science Foo Camp, an annual invitation-only gathering of social scientists and technologists. In 2023, I was the convenor of the AI in Education Summit.

I have previously worked at Nature, McKinsey & Company and The Economist. I studied at Imperial College, London and the University of Oxford, from where have a doctorate in neuroscience.

I was an early adopter of social media and am now an early abandoner, so you won't find me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Reddit, Snapchat, TikTok, Xitter or any of the others. I do have a Wikipedia page, but I don't check it and am not responsible for the content.

I'm based in London, UK, having previously lived in the US and Japan (ζ—₯本θͺžγŒε‡Ίζ₯ます).

Here is a brief CV.
